So I’ve been away for a bit.
I was off welcoming 2010 and watching the much heralded Winter Classic from amidst the snow covered mountains of Rangeley, Maine. A burgeoning family tradition has us spending a bit of post-Christmas vacation time at the lovely clan lodge in Oquossoc. There was skiing, snowmobiling and hikes through the frozen wilderness during the day. There was merriment around the blazing fireplace in the evening. There were friggin’ deer and moose everywhere and it snowed every single day including that whopper of a storm that brought over two feet to the area on the day we had to leave.
All in all not a bad place from which to appreciate a traditional outdoor hockey game but driving a Nissan Altima down winding, icy mountain roads in the middle of a blizzard is not something I’d recommend to anyone without a serious life insurance policy that they want to do a Willie Loman on.
All that, then, was the background setting for the watching of something momentous. There’s really not much I can say about this game, this event, that you folks don’t already know. You saw it like I did. You can fill in the adjectives.
Spectacular. Glorious. Breathtaking. The history that filled the building like a living spirit and brought that sense of Majesty to the proceedings.
Bobby Orr, in the house.
Members of the 1980 Lake Placid Miracle on Ice Team, in the house.
Bruins. Flyers. Fenway Park.
I’ll let some of my favorite images from the day do the rest of the speaking for me on this one.

Nuff. Said.

Sounds like a wonderful trip. And the game…well, now I’m finally getting around to posting my bit about it, except illustrated with lousy screenshots.
I’m leaving for a short Boston trip tomorrow–I’ll be there for Blackhawks vs. Bruins, again. And whatever AHL games I can get to. I’m trying to get in touch with people in the area before I leave…I’ve missed hockey in New England.

Dude, whatever. The Flyers lost. That means, by default, that game sucked. Don’t argue, you Beantown-loving homo.

Yeah, they lost the game. But they won the fight.
Where we come from that about makes it even, don’t you think?
