Former Blue Jacket Ryan Salmons, RIP

By Odd Brian

Pardon a tough Hockey guy a moment of softness.

There are a lot of things that define Hockey players: courage, intensity, passion. But sometimes, what really stands out is when a player, even the whole organizaion, displays heart.

Earlier today, Ryan Salmons succumbed to cancer. Salmons, a 19 year-old Hockey player, and his plight caught the attention of the Columbus Blue Jackets. And they did what any good Hockey club would do. They took Salmons under their wing. Several players, notably Jason Chimera and Manny Malhotra, went to great pains to make the last few months of his life something to remember. Particularly touching was when Columbus GM Scott Howson signed Salmons to a one-day contract with the team. Salmons, meanwhile, became an inspiration to the Jackets as they played for their first playoff berth.

We here at Hockey Gone Wild send our condolences towards the Salmons family.
